This Week's Review and Giveaway: 101 Things I Learned in Culinary School
Did you ever want to go to culinary school or maybe you know someone who does? Or maybe you're just really into cooking and would love to learn all the ins and outs of the prefessional chef world in order to make yourself more efficient in your home kitchen. Whatever your level of cooking skill, 101 Things I Learned in Culinary School by Louis Eguaras with Matthew Frederick is a fantastic little book for any cook, professional or not. Page by page and in an easy to read, step by step format, it teaches the reader the basics of cooking and provides insight into the many facets of the professional kitchen. Kitchen terminology, techniques, the art of presentation, management and more are just a few of the topics covered in this little gem of a book.
When I first had a look at 101 Things I Learned in Culinary School, I was instantly attracted to the format of the book. Each individual lesson is accompanied by a simple drawing so that the information provided is easily understood. I also loved the variety of information provided. From the basic, "How To Keep Salad Dressing from Seperating" to the interesting, "Why the Chef's Jacket is Double Breasted" to the safety necessities, "Many Foods are Poisins", 101 Things I Learned in Culinary School really does cover the need to know information. And finally, I love the size of this lovely little book. It is small enough to fit into my kitchen drawer and is therefore at my fingertips when I want to quickly look up something I have forgotten.
